Following the Taika reforms, Japan entered into the Nara Period.

The Kojiki (712 CE) provide "origin stories" and Dynastic genealogies.

The Nara Court was at odds with the Emishi people of the North, leading to the Emishi wars.

​

This period experienced what was likely Japan's first small pox epidemic.
