Japan, an archipelagic nation, exists as a unique place in the world.  Surrounded by water, Japan has the ocean as its protection as well as its most readily available natural resource.  Seafood is a stable in the Japanese diet due to this.  The Japanese have spent millennia perfecting seafood dishes, and are known world wide for their cuisine.  Popular Japanese foods include:
